4.8.26
Hey, Calvary Fremont –
Christ was buried in two places after His crucifixion. He was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, and He was buried in the hearts of those who had followed Him. It was a simple matter for the Lord to remove the tombstone; it was another matter to remove the heart-stone.
Some women came to the tomb with spices to the tomb on that Easter morning to complete the burial ritual. These Spice Girls came to the tomb in unbelief. Had they really believed the words of Jesus – that He would rise from the dead in three days – they would have come with Starbucks Coffee and Krispy Kreme Donuts. They would have reasoned, “Being dead for three days has to be hard work. Let’s greet Him with some treats!” When they came to the tomb, the stone had been rolled away, but their heart-stones were still firmly in place.
After being assured by the angels that Jesus had risen from the dead, they hurried back to report to the apostles all they had seen and heard. And though the tombstone had been rolled away and Christ had emerged victorious over sin, death, the grave, hell, and the devil – their heart-stones were still firmly in place. They did not believe what the women had to say for it sounded like nonsense to them. Later Jesus appeared to them and their heart-stones were rolled away.
By the preaching of the gospel and the announcement that “Christ is Risen, He is risen indeed,” the heart-stones of billions down through the millennia have been rolled away and the Victorious Jesus has made His glorious entrance. Let’s continue to present a Risen and Victorious Jesus to a world mired in sin and rebellion against God and so ready to kill their fellow man. “Jesus is the answer for the world today. Without Him, there’s no other – Jesus is the way”
