Hey, Calvary Fremont –
For whom should I vote? Let me provide a template that will help you think about this so you can make the wisest choice. Let’s imagine that the Manager of your local Costco was an elected position. Every four years the Incumbent Manager and the person who wants to be the new Manager have to campaign for this position. Manager #1 would say something to effect that he has really been diligent to listen to the voice of the Public and has stocked the store with items the Public wants and arranged the store in a way that would make shopping a pleasant experience. Manager #2 would say something to the effect that she has heard from the Public, too. If she were elected as the new Manager of Costco she would remove those products considered to be harmful to the consumer and would replace these suspect items with worthier products that the Incumbent Manager chose not to stock.
Manager #1 has discerned a trend toward healthier living and the demand for more wholesome food items. So, under his supervision, the Meat Department has shrunk, and the Vegan section has grown. The Challenger alleges that the Incumbent has no right to make dietary decisions for the Consuming Public and that she would work to restore the Meat Department. The Incumbent also sees the craze for body image and so has removed many of the tables selling cookies, muffins, and cakes and has spread out colorful mats. Announcements over the speaker system inform the Shoppers that they can take a refreshing Yoga break. He knows he’ll lose money on the baked items, but refreshed Shoppers will remain in the store longer and purchase other items. The Challenger can only roll her eyes and make promises to bring back the cookies, muffins, and cakes. (If children could vote, she would win!)
Think of America as one big Costco and the policies you care about as the products on the shelves. What are these products? What do Americans care about? Economy. Inflation. Deficit. Jobs. Wages. Abortion. Taxes. Immigration. Foreign Policy. Democracy. Free speech. Homelessness. Crime. Gender Justice. Government Corruption. Healthcare. Gun Violence. Climate Change. Racism. Etc. I’m sure you can add to this list.
What does the Store of America look like under the Incumbent? What would the Store of America look like under the Challenger? Both Candidates will have these items in their store, but in what measure, and in what place? The Incumbent has Abortion on the first aisle and on the lowest shelf when you walk in the front door. Where would the Challenger put Abortion? The Incumbent has ten shelves full of Immigrants. How many shelves would the Challenger have? The Incumbent has a growing section of Inflation. Would the Challenger shrink this section? The Incumbent has half of his parking lot filled with the tents and trailers of the Homeless. What would the parking lot look like if the Challenger won? And so on…
The final (or maybe the first) thing to do is to ask: What does God’s Word say about… Economy. Inflation. Deficit. Jobs. Wages. Abortion. Taxes. Immigration. Foreign Policy. Democracy. Free Speech. Homelessness. Crime. Gender Justice. Government Corruption. Healthcare. Gun Violence. Climate Change. Racism. Etc.
So, for whom should you vote? You should vote for the Candidate whose policies most closely conform to what God’s Word says on these issues.
