Over the years I’ve really wrestled with a “condemning conscience” based upon what I believed were missed callings or lack of committment and ability to trust God. This led to a long term depression in that I believed Jesus had judged my faithfulness as not having taken up my cross enough or not having forsaken the world enough to essentially prove my devotion to God. Also, I often read Romans 7 and 8 thinking that a true Christian lives in Romans 8 not in Romans 7. I’m still praying through this to really internalize the freedom that is here because I believe this is a way the enemy has pinned me down for many years and robbed me of the joy of my salvation. The progression from sin, to guilt, to shame, to accusation, to condemnation and finally to depression. “It is God who justifies” Amen. Thankful that when my trial date shows up Jesus went in my place. I’ll never be as faithful to God as I imagined to be, or as I should be, as I perceive others are, or of course as Jesus was. Amen.
